Westlife: Heart-throbs drop in to club for a pint, or two

Revellers at Club Brazilia, in Bury St Edmunds, got a shock onSaturday night when Irish boy band Westlife turned up for a fewdrinks. Kian, Shane, Mark and Nicky visited the Station Hill night spotafter performing in front of 25,000 people at Christchurch Park,Ipswich, earlier in the day. The group, who have had a string of number one hits, were staying atan undisclosed hotel in Bury. Chris Cornish, manager of Club Brazilia, said the boys' managementcalled ahead to check if it was okay for the heart-throbs to pop infor a pint or two. After a quick security check of the premises by their minders, thechart-topping foursome were escorted into the club to enjoy thenightlife of Bury. "I was a bit shocked when I got the call, but you take it in yourstride," said Mr Cornish. "I did think it was a wind up ?I thought I'll believe it when I seeit... and then they turned up. We roped off an area upstairs andthey just sat up there, had a few drinks and chilled out. "You couldn't wish to meet a group of more friendly down to earthlads ?they really were a great bunch of guys." Although the lads enjoyed a number of drinks, they didn't take tothe dancefloor to show off any of the nifty moves featured in theirmusic videos. Mr Cornish said the boys were more than happy to say hello to fansand sign autographs. He said: "They stayed afterwards and met all the staff. They had achat to everyone and we had some photos done with them. They arestill really high profile and for them to come here is not only goodfor the club but for the whole town."

WESTLIFE SINGER ALMOST MISSES PERFORMANCE

Irish band WESTLIFE nearly missed their performance at Wednesday's (15SEP04) WORLD MUSIC AWARDS after bandmate KIAN EGAN lost his way to the stage. The FLYING WITHOUT WINGS group were held up for ten minutes before their appearance at the Las Vegas event until assistants finally found Egan anxiously asking passers by where the stage was.A source says, "There was a bit of a panic after the other three lads went on and then realised Kian wasn't with them."Assistants were sent out and they found him wandering aimlessly around."He was very pleased to see them and was led back to the stage."
